About The Project

The project is simple. I want to use the Microsoft Kinect to create robotic assisted driving program that maps the enviroment around the car and perdicts the best direct to travel.

Durring this project I also wish to answer the following questions:

  • How does the Kinect perform in various weather conditions (snow, rain, sun, etc)?
  • How does the limited range of the Kinect (around 20 feet) impact this project.
  • How does the limited field of view (less than 60 degrees) impact this project.
  • What is the best way to mount the Kinect to a car and insure that it is safe from the elements.
  • What do you wire the Kinect into the car's electrical system.

About The Car

I am going to use my VW TDI Jetta SportWagon as the guinea pig. I hope to have to do very little modifcation to the car to implement this system. I hope to mount the Kinect to the frount of the roof in a weather proof case, intergrate with the car's electrical system and mount a NetBook or MacBook Air permently inside the car.

Timeline

I have no idea how long this project will take. I'm thinking all of 2012 to complete to do the list above. We will see...

About Me

Hello, I am a mostly web developer in Northern California, not looking for any web development leads.

I am doing this project because I think the technology behind Microsoft's Kinect is fisinating and fun.

If you have any spelling corrections for this site.... keep them to yourself. :)
